Fuwai Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Shenzhen (Fuwai Hospital Shenzhen) will add 850 beds including 300 beds belonging to the hospital’s Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) international medical department after the completion of its third-phase construction.

Fuwai Hospital Shenzhen’s third-phase construction project is located in Nanshan District. It was initiated Monday and will be completed in June 2027, according to SZTV.
After its completion, the hospital’s total number of beds will reach 1,600 and its total construction area will reach 330,000 square meters. Fuwai Hospital in Shenzhen is jointly established by the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government.
The first phase of the renovation project was put into use this February. The ongoing second phase project will be completed in December 2025.
Hu Shengshou, president of Fuwai Hospital Shenzhen, said that the hospital will strive to build a hub for cardiovascular disease treatment in the GBA and a hub for the transformation of scientific and technological innovations.
“On one hand, we need to continue improving our capabilities in treating cardiovascular diseases and to offer quality medical services to citizens in Shenzhen and its surrounding areas. On the other hand, we aim to build a national-level scientific research platform to drive the development of scientific research strength in cardiovascular-related fields in the GBA and to promote Shenzhen’s biomedical and medical device industries,” Hu said.
“Our goal is to build a high-level national regional medical center that focuses on cardiovascular diseases and related fields in eight years by adopting advanced international standards,” Hu suggested.
From 2019 to 2021, the hospital’s outpatient department received 649,000 visits. Moreover, the hospital has finished over 4,000 surgeries, including 30 heart transplants.
This August, the hospital completed the first artificial heart surgery for a minor in South China, refreshing the current minimum age for patients undergoing artificial heart surgery nationwide, said the report.
