Two Metro lines, Line 12 and the Line 6 spur line, are expected to be put into operation Nov. 28, a source from Shenzhen Metro Group said recently.

The 6.13-kilometer spur line has four stations and offers interchange with Line 6 at Guangming Station and will connect with Line 1 in Dongguan.

“The spur line has passed experts’ inspections, completed a 3-month-long testing period and met operational requirements,” Hu Shaopeng, the project manager of the spur line, said during an interview.

At Sun Yat-sen University Station, the city’s first underground bicycle parking garage will be put into use to promote slow traffic and low-carbon commuting.

“Driverless technologies, wireless phone charging, intelligent service pavilions and handprint recognition at turnstiles will bring convenience and comfort to passengers,” Hu said.

Each station will be equipped with a baby nursing room, providing convenience for mothers, according to Wen Bo, head of Guangming Station.

Separately, the 40.5-kilometer fully automated Line 12 has 33 stations in total starting from Zuopaotai East Station in Nanshan and ending at Waterlands Resort East Station in Bao’an, passing Nanshan and Bao’an CBDs, as well as Fuyong, the Shenzhen airport and the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center areas.

The line has 20 transfer stations including those on existing lines 1, 2, 5, 9, 11 and 20, as well as future lines under planning or construction. It will help relieve traffic congestion in Nanshan and Bao’an CBDs.
