A wireless electronic thermometer developed by a Shenzhen-based high-tech company has played a huge role in COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
The intelligent product, made by Nanshan-based Shenzhen Refresh Intelligent Technology Co., weighs only two grams and can monitor surface body temperature every three seconds. It has helped provide a secure environment during competitions at the National Aquatics Center, also dubbed as the “Ice Cube.”
The company’s independently developed fourth-generation wireless electronic thermometer is light and sophisticated, appears like a coin-sized sticker, according to their website.
“As far as we know, there is no smaller thermometer than ours in the global market. Users can barely feel the thermometer while wearing it,” said Wang Lei, vice president and marketing director of Refresh.
“The wireless electronic thermometer is very small and comfortable to wear. It also has excellent temperature measurement accuracy,” he added.
The thermometer’s body temperature monitoring management system continuously monitors the temperature of each working staffer and volunteer in real time for 24 hours at the “Ice Cube.” Abnormal body temperature will automatically trigger an alarm by sending messages to the pandemic management workers.
“Our product was selected for Olympics venues due to its higher level of convenience, efficiency and accuracy, compared with the traditional infrared thermometer,” Wang said.
Wang said that “the wireless thermometer mainly targets family users. For parents who are not with their sick children, they can keep track of the children’s body temperature changes at any time with our thermometer via the app.”
According to Wang, over 80 percent of Refresh’s employees are from its R&D team and all of its chips and biosensor system platforms are developed independently.
