        16,000 run marathon despite frigid temps

        On Dec. 18, a total of 16,000 runners participated in the 2022 Nanshan Half Marathon. At 8 a.m. at the starting line at the east gate of Shenzhen Talent Park, the runners were led by Huang Xiangyue, head of Nanshan District and Chinese badminton legendary Lin Dan, also known as “Super Dan,” who is the ambassador of Nanshan’s public fitness promotion. The 21.0975-kilometer seaside route ended at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center.

        Racers also ran past other iconic scenic spots and landmarks including Dasha River Ecological Corridor, Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base area, Shenzhen University and Nantou Ancient Town.

        According to the organizers, the 2022 Nanshan Half Marathon was the first marathon event in Guangdong Province in 2022.

        Yang Dinghong finished first in the men’s group, clocking in at 1 hour, 4 minutes, 45 seconds, while Jiao Anjing won in the women’s group with 1hour, 16 minutes, 43 seconds.

        Yang shared his feelings after finishing the race, “I’ve been waiting for three years, so I’m so thrilled to run in today’s event. I’m not at my best today and I’m not quite satisfied with my result. However, I’m so happy to be back in the race, I feel very motivated.”

        Zhou Baomin, director-general of the Nanshan District Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau, said, "The Nanshan Half Marathon was held smoothly. Runners were very enthusiastic, and the event was supported by many departments and citizens. This race is not only a stage for athletes, but also for the general public. We set up over 30 viewing points along the route to allow the public to participate and feel the city’s unyielding spirit.”
